artREAL and Mercer Contemporary’s event HIGHER GROUND at the penthouse of 17 East 12th Street
Set within an exquisite Greenwich Village penthouse, the crowd at this packed ‘art meets real estate’ group show on May 31, 2017 flowed back and forth from the grand living room, where the art was installed, and the impressive terrace overlooking the downtown skyline – the perfect backdrop for taking in the beautiful art while sipping on a glass of rose!
A collaboration between Aren Ebrahimi of artREAL (who currently has the penthouse on the market with his team for $9,995,000), curator Nicole Bray of Mercer Contemporary and Douglas Elliman Real Estate, the show celebrated the incredible work of six emerging artists while drawing attention to the crossover of art and real estate in New York, and the placement of art within a luxury property setting.
The show drew on the hustle, drive, and grace of this select group of artists, and their unending ambition to push their work into innovative subject matter, spaces, and materials, much like New York City real estate. Drawing on their environment and found objects from the city, the abstract non-representational canvases were rich in gestures of performative painting, with an irrepressible palette that reflected both the joy and grittiness of New York.
The artists featured in the show were Hyon Gyon, Justine Hill, Emily Joelle Lambert, Kristina Lee, Ilana Savdie and Vaughn Spann.
